sarajevo, bosnia | july 1999 - february 2001
The International Olympic Committee and United Colors of Benetton, both in the role of sponsors, commissioned a recreational building (restaurant, cafeteria, bar, ski hire and shop) in the former Olympic installations destroyed during the war. The challenge, given the low budget, was to design and build a functional, attractive building with local materials and manpower, and “low-cost” technology.
The building features a shining roof that symbolises hope, and at the same time protects the terrace from the aggressive climate of the area.
In collaboration with Fabrica
